The Utah Utes are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent the University of Utah, located in Salt Lake City. The men’s basketball team is known as the Runnin’ Utes; the women’s gymnastics team is known as the Red Rocks. The Utes Currently play in the Pac-12 and will transition to the Big-12 after Baseball, Softball, and Beach Volleyball conclude this season.
The Football team had its first season in 1892 and play at the Rice-Eccles Stadium. They have been playing in Salt Lake City since 1927. They have won 28 conference championships in teh five conferences they have been in as of the 2022 season, they have a cumulative record of 711 wins, 476 losses, and 31 ties. The Utes have a record of 17–8 in big bowl games, which is the fourth best in the nation as of now. Utah is coached by Kyle Whittingham, who was promoted from defensive coordinator after Utah went undefeated in 2004.
The Utah Utes men’s basketball team, aka the Runnin’ Utes, are an NCAA Division I program. They play in the Jon M. Huntsman Center for hme games. The Utes have made the NCAA tournament 29 times. Craig Smith is the head coach for the Utah Utes men’s team who has coached for three seasons.
The Utah Utes Women’s Basketball team represents University of Utah in Division I NCAA Basketball. The Utes have an 844–443 record , with 17 appearances in the NCAA Tournament including this year in 2024. They are coached by Lynn Roberts as she will be heading into her 10th season.
Gymnastics has 10 national championships and has been the runner-up nine times. Utah is the only school to qualify for all 39 NCAA Gymnastics Championships and has the most All-America awards so far. The Red Rocks won the Pac-12 Championship in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2021. Utah holds the record for all the gymnastics attendance records and also the highest one-meet attendance of 16,019.
Volleyball has played in in 17 of the last 23 NCAA Tournaments, where they finished in the Sweet 16 four times. They are coached by Beth Launiere who will be going into her 34th season as the head coach.
The Utah Women’s Softball Team, has made the postseason 21 times including16 NCAA Regionals, 2 Super Regionals and has five College World Series appearances. Amy Houge is currently coaching the team after playing for them, in her 17th season
Our other Pac-12 Teams include: “Men’s Tennis (2018 and ’19 NCAA Championships, 24 conference championships), Women’s Tennis (three-consecutive NCAA appearances from 2010-12), Men’s Swimming and Diving (No. 22 NCAA finish in 2015, 24 conference championships), Women’s Swimming and Diving (2006 MWC champion), Women’s Cross Country (2015, ‘16 and ‘19 NCAA Championships, and 1981 AIAW Division II National Champion) and Men’s Golf (2021 NCAA Regionals).”
